Our Valentine’s Day Auction on February 13 here at the River School was a big success despite a winter blizzard (as we seemed to have every week this year). We raised almost $1000 via online and in person bids, and delighted in the chocolate fountain with lots of yummy things to dip in and eat, plus lots of free chocolate and treats. Items left over will be used in another auction later this spring.

The River School, a new small independent high school with a student-centered philosophy, has been awarded a $2000 grant from the Maine Community Foundation’s Waldo County Fund. This grant money will be used to help support the school’s start-up year and cover associated expenses. “We are very pleased to receive this support from the Maine Community Foundation,” said Larry Reynolds, the River School Director. “We already have five students, and expect more to jump onboard as the year progresses. It will be exciting to see how this group of young people interacts with the community, and how they choose to shape their education.”
The Maine Community Foundation is a statewide organization that works in partnership with donors and community groups to strengthen Maine. For more information on their grant programs or to donate, visit their website at www.mainecf.org or call toll-free at 877-700-6800. |
