My ideas about learning are rooted in my own experience. When I think back about the times I learned the most, it was in a carefully crafted environment with an enthused teacher who sensed my curiosity and used it to pull me in. Every student is unique and deserves to be addressed in light of that individuality in a caring and stimulating atmosphere. I cling to Henry D. Thoreau's idea that “We should seek to be fellow-pupils with our students.” He thought we could be most helpful by learning with and about our students. He understood that teaching is relational. I agree. |
